~ Analysis of Shooting Schedule ~

Shooting schedule

This shooting schedule was put together with cooperation
of the whole group to allow us to put a time schedule together that everyone can work too, we did this because there where certain, days that some of the group wasn't available, we decided that is was
easiest to film on a Tuesday because we are all available at lunch and are all available after school.

~ Research ~

We looked on the British film council website and looked through a document in
research of film categories and there audience, we couldn't find our
film category ( detective) on the website, so we went with a close
other which is a Thriller, we found that the category of people
that watched this category the most where 35+ females.

By analysing the second page we found that a wide range of people
enjoy this type off genre, we found that this film genre supports all
genders, ages and social classes.

~Jobs Roles~

Camera/sound:
we think that Jonny should be the camera man because
he was the best camera man out of all us during the preliminary task.

Director
We decided henry would be the best director because he
is the most creative and knows how to get his
point across in a good way

Producer
We decided that I would be producer
because I am best at editing and showed this during
the preliminary task.

~Locations of Filming~

Housing estate

(we chose this to do the night murder scene)
We chose to film in the estate because it adds enigma to the
opening scene and looks good to film in, we chose this certain
location because it is in the estate but is open enough to film in.

THE PRODUCER
The producer over sees the film production and filming, and delivers the film to the relevant parties and relevant target audience. The producer will also finance the film in its idea state until it is a fully working idea after it has taken off it will become fully financed.

“The producer is often actively involved throughout all major phases of the filmmaking process, from inception and development to completion and delivery of a film project” From- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_producer

The Director
"The Director: A film director is a person who directs the actors and film crew in film making. They control a film's artistic and dramatic aspects whilst guiding the technical crew and actors." the director will control the film production and will control what the people do on scene.

Camera Operator
this is the person who will carry out the filming of the production, there is always more than one camera on scene, this is done so that the production can be filmed at many angles, which makes it easier to edit at the end.

~ market research ~

-Sherlock Holmes-
Sherlock Holmes is a very good detective film. This film is good because there is a lot of enigma raised throughout the production and therefore makes the audience more involved with the situation. i think that the enigma raised allows the viewer to become part of the production as in they are trying to solve the film as well as the detectives. This film is good but unlike ours is set in

-James Bond Casino Royale-
All of the James Bond films are detectives but in a different form to ours, our production is going to be a very sedate film in which there isn't a lot of action and shooting scenes, instead it is going to be very slow paced and ideal for the 35+ target audience. I think that Casino royale is a very good film because they are quite easy to understand, this is because most information is presented in a an easy way in which it can be read by most people.

~ Interviewing the target audience ~

Example of questionaire

15+
We asked one 15+ aged person about what they think of our film idea, they said that they would like to see more action in it and they would like to see more happen, overall they thought that it was a good idea.

35+
The 35+ aged person thought that this film would be a really good idea and thought that it doesnt really need much changing, this correspondes with what the BBFC said about the target audience being 35+.

~ Marketing ~

When marketing you need to take into account the target audience, for us this is teens aged 15+ both male and female and women aged 35+.

Our group decided that it would be best to advertise during program's such as 'Lewis' (which is a detective drama on TV), 'Coronation Street', and before films at the cinema such as 'Sherlock Holmes' which is coming out in the near future.

~Target Audience~

After Talking in the group and seeing what the UK film council said we came up with two possible target audiences: 15 years and up and What the film council suggested 35 + females.

However the Film council data didn't include our genre (detective) so the research came from the closest possible genre (Thriller). So what we'll do is interview a 15+ audience member and a 35+ audience member, then we'll discuss the feedback and try to blend the best of what we hear from both interviews in to the film.

~The BBFC~

The BBFC control film classification throughout all films published in the UK, they regulate what film rating a film should get and if it actually eligible to be published. The BBFC rate films by looking at certain criteria and comparing it to the film in question, if films fail to meet this criteria aspects of the film may have to be changed or the whole film may be rejected, the criteria is:

± Discrimination - is the film offensive to a certain religion, gender, disability, etc.
± Drugs- Does the film portray the use of drugs and does it advertise the use of drugs
± Horror - are there scenes that are to scary for young children.
± Language - Is there bad language that can influence young minds.
± Imitable behaviour- Are the scenes to violent or use certain dangerous weapons e.g. knives or bottles, these
are any thing that a child may be able copy and take influence from.
± Nudity- Does the film portray too much nudity/sex that could be offensive to the audience, some films that use
to much nudity may be classed a R18 because there is to much nudity for it to be classed as just an 18
± Theme - are there thing added into the film theme that could be offensive, for example there shouldn't be
glamorisation of illegal activities such as drug dealing, rape or murder.
± Violence- Does the film contain graphic or excessive violence.

~synopsis for film~

Detectives David Stone (Henry Inman) and Dan Cash (James Quinlan)  investigates the murder of a wealthy banker with known Mafia links. As the case develops, more wealthy victims are found, notably a private doctor, CEO of an insurance company and the head of a union striking about pensions. Stone finally makes the connection that his partner's father needs £30,000 to have life saving surgery. After staking out Cash, Stone learns he's been raising money for his father's operation by moonlighting as a Mafia  hit man and now Stone must make the decision of his life: condemn his best friend's father to death or let more people die at the hands of his friend.

~analysing a student's video~

-Conventions-
This 2 minute opening includes the very basic conventions that we would expect to see in any film, these are:
-company name/logo
-introduction to main characters
-synopsis for the outline of the remainder of the film

-Mise En Scene-
Costume=   the main character is wearing casual clothing, anything that you would see everyday, doesnt
                  stand out
Lighting=    There isn't really any artificial light used in this production, there is only natural lighting used,
the scene in the bathroom is lit up by normal lights.
Actors=      The actors in this production are all about the same age.
Make up=   I don't think that there is that much make up used in this production, this is because all of the
scenes are quite bright and therefore there isn't any need to Brighten up the people,
there will only be normal make up used, that isn't used to actually change the scene.
Props=      There isnt that many props used, the main prop is probably the car in which they are driving,
apart form that there aren't any more props
Setting=     There are alot off different settings for the film, these include the field where he meets the
women and there is the house/building that he is in.

~Blurb~

"A murder in an English suburb leaves locals horrified and the police looking for answers. As the case develops detective David Stone (Henry Inman) and detective Dan Cash (James Quinlan) start to realise just how personal police work can get."

Monday 14 November 2011

We have just put a poll up onto "Facebook" to get a wider range off ideas of which area they think is best to film our opening scene, we did this because our group is indecisive as to where we think is best to film it.
A link to the poll is provided below:

~Analysing Our Chosen Idea Using CMINTS~

We finally chose to do the detective film because we decided that it will be the easiest and the most practical one to do, we decided that the film is going to be named SLEEP ON IT

-Characters-
we have chosen to have two main detectives in our film, these are going to strong minded witty
characters who are used to getting there point across, this helps
to make them the most important characters in the film.

-Mise En Scene-

Clothing: the clothed for our production are going out be very simple but smart, we chose this so that the characters will look formal and like detective, the main two characters ( dan cash and David stone) willed wearing smart but casual clothing to make them look formal and like a detective, the victim will be wearing smart clothing because he was a banker before he was murdered

~our pitch~

Our Pitch

~Pitch 1 Spoof horror:~

Idea
two people are being held in warehouse, they are both handcuffed together with there other arms being tied to the chair, there are being threatened by a slasher character who says "you cant escape from here" after this scene one of the hostages find a pair of scissors that have been stupidly left on a shelf near to them, that hostage then cuts him self free and then cuts the other one free and they run off, the slasher then starts to chase them, the two hostages are two concerned in trying not to get captured they run into a lamppost and they twist around the lamppost and hit into each thus knocking them out, the slash quickly captures them.

The pitch
we first started of with James's pitch, the spoof horror, this pitch went very well and was quite a favourite, James was asked for where the film is going to take place, quite a lot of people said that there is quite a lot to fit into 2 minutes. He where then asked "where do they get the scissors from" the answer is because it is a spoof horror they will be sat on a shelf, this adds to the persona of the spoof part of the film,

How we could make it better
We could try and make the opening fit into two minutes this can be done by speeding up the scene or making that certain scene a little bit shorter. We should also take into account putting credits and company logos into the title.

~Pitch 2 Detective~

Idea
Two detectives are sent to investigate the murder of a local in the town, the first scene starts off with a victim stumbling around clutching their throat after being stabbed, the victim then falls to the floor dead, after this scene the camera pans onto the masked murderer running away, the camera will capture something being thrown onto the floor but not in focus enough so that the viewer can see what it is, this therefore creates enigma as to what it is. After this there will be a cut into another scene which is now set into day time, now the camera will show two detectives walking towards the body and staring to study it, the body will be on the floor the hands still around the throat,

The Pitch
our pitch went quite well and we answered to most off the information that needed to be answered, we where asked a couple of things such as "where is it going to be set" we have now settled on it being set in the rich suburb of a city, this is done to try and create enigma examples off- why is it happening here, why has that person being killed etc. we said that there wouldn't be a continuity error  because it set at night, but we now know that there will be for the body.

What we could make better
we could try and make a more interesting cast list for the film, this would help to make the film more realistic or more drastic because of how the characters are played. Another this to change could be the location because we don't want it to be in the middle of a city instead we are going to have it on the edge of the city in the rich suburbs.

Pitch 3 Ganster

Idea
an angry business man go to the don and asks a guy to be beaten us because he doesnt give him money he is owed, the Don then gets his main heavy onto the case but instead the Heavy accidentally kills the guy who was meant to be beat, the business man then decides that he isn't going to pay up the Don then gives him 72 hours to pay up or else he will be killed.

Pitch
I think that this pitch is done very well and tells you a lot about the film we are planning on doing, henry said what the film is going to be about and what is going to happen throughout the film, I think that we are going to find it hard to fit all the above into the first two minutes of the film, therefore our group has objected against doing this film because it is going to be hard to produce.

What we could improve
Henry was asked where the film was going to be set and didn't really have an answer to respond with, so we are going to think about where the film is going to be set, we know that there will be a smart office with low key lighting to help add to the characteristic's of the fearful gangsters, but we still have decided on the location for the film, such as is it going to be in London or sunny old new York

Overall Opinion of out Pitch's
I think that the pitches went very well and we met most of what was needed to present it to the class, i think that all the ideas are very good and are all able to be a working production thus I also think that some of the ideas are a lot easier to film and produce than other, I think that the gangster film is going to be quite hard to do because we will have to get the right actions and persona of the gangsters to make the film look any where decent, I do think though with a little bit of practise we will be able to pull the film off. I think that the spoof horror is going to be the hardest film to do because we have to present it as a horror which is going to be quite hard to do, and we also have to make it funny in such a way that the audience will want to watch it, I also think that this would be very hard to film because there is a rather long running scene in it which will be hard to film because off the complexity of the filming regime. Our final idea was the detective pitch which I  think most of the group is taken to because it is going to be quite easy to film, unlike all off the other films this isn't going to be to fast paced, and doesn't make us need to put on a certain persona which will be hard to do, because the detective film is going to be English there is no need for us to put on any certain accents to make the film any part better. I think that on a whole all the pitches went very well and all of our group is happy of what was achieved from it, we also good very good feedback which will helps us with our filming and ideas for the later production.

~Enigma~

~enigma~

These are questions that arise during the first few
minutes of the opening of a film, the questions are incorporated
to make the viewer interested in trying to find the answer
to the question, and therefore making the viewer carry on
watching the film. I think that by using enigma in our productions
will help to make viewers want to carry on
to watch the rest of the production

~film opening 2~

.:Dukes Of Hazzard:.

~Conventions
This film uses many conventions, these include setting
the scene, the story being set, presents the main charac-
Ters and name credits.

~Mise En Scene~

C- Everyday casual clothing, doesn’t  make them stand out.
They look normal because of there clothing.
L-    The lighting for this Is very bright ( high key),
also in some scenes there may not be any lighting used ( natural lighting)
A-  The actors in this film look very uneducated, this is shown
in how they dress and there overall way of life
M- Isn’t really that much makeup used in this film partially
because most of the actors are male
P-  The props that are used are the car which presents there
very outgoing, wild personality. The moon shine in the back
of the car is important because it outlines the events of the rest of the film
S- The setting is presented to us by the narrator right at the start of the
film, we are told that the film is set in sunny old hazard county

~Editing~

When the location is being shown the cuts and transitions
between frames is very slow and soft just to
give a clue about where they are, by having
slow editing time is given to the narrator to
present the area where its sets, Phrases such
as “basically down here moves a little bit slower
than everywhere else. Then you get introduced to
the main characters about 45 seconds in, after this
scene the editing changes from going very slow to
quite fast paced, this helps to show that the main
characters are fast moving dare devil drivers.

~Lighting~
There is a lot of high key lighting used in this production,
this is done to make the film be in a happily Presented way,
there is also a lot of natural lighting used in this production
because most of the filming is done outside in daytime,
therefore the set for the film is going to be quite bright.

~Camera~
There are a lot of camera shots used in the
production of this film . There is an establishing
shot right at the start of film when the
narrator is setting the location. Once this scene
is over we are instantly hrown into the action where
we meet the main characters for the first, from
this scene onwards the shots get a lot faster and
there are a lot more camera shots used, when
the two characters are in the car we get a mid shot
and a two shot on both of the characters, this helps
to show there importance in the film.

~Sound~

There is a lot of diagetic sounds in this film e.g.
the car engine, bottles rattling in the back of
the car, the radio this helps to tell authenticate
the film and add reality to it there is also a
lot of non-diagetic sounds used in the film,
such as the music when he narrator is telling us
about Location and the characters.

Thursday 27 October 2011

~film Opening 1~

.:Casino Royale opening credits:.

Conventions
-suggests what the outline of the film may be about e.g. poker chips-
-sets the genre for the film, in this case we know it is going to be an action-
-Informs us of the actors-

Mise En Scene
~Clothing~
There are a lot of smart suits presented which could suggest
that the main character/s are going to look smart

~Lighting~
There is quite high key lighting used to make the scene
look lighter and happier, although the starting
scene is an animation

~Actors~
There aren't any actors shows in the first scene because
it is an animation and no characters are shown

~ Make-up ~
There isn't any make-up shown in this scene and
even if there was we wouldn't be able to see
it because all of the characters are silhouetted

~Props~
There are lot of gun props used, this helps to add to
the concept of an action film, there are other things like
cards used to add to build up the possibility of a casino
or gambling to be portrayed in the film

~Setting~
The film is set somewhere in Italy, we aren't told this in the titling
scene though this, the setting is a very posh and
wealthy town

-Editing-
There are a lot of smooth cutting during this opening sequence,
this is because the scene is animated
and there is no need for there to be any fast
cuts or jump cuts

-Lighting-
There is a lot of high key lighting used in the production off
this film, this is done to make the scene feel a lot more realistic
and a lot more livelier, there is also a lot
of natural lighting used to because most of the
scenes are shot out doors

-Sound-
There is a lot of diagetic and non diagetic sound used
throughout the opening scene and the rest of the film

~Diagetic~
There aren't a lot of digetic sounds used in the
opening credits because there is no need for them

~Non-Diagetic~
There is only one bit of non-diagetic sound used in
the opening and this is the music which plays over the
animation, this music is fairly fast paced

~The Group~

On this production I am going to be working with Jonny Knibbs, James Quinlan and Henry Inman, We are all going to take it in turns at doing certain parts off the  E.G. filming and editing, this is done to make sure that everyone has a part in the production.

~Conventions Of A Film Opening~

Conventions Of A Film Opening

conventions are things that a film should include in the first
1-2 minutes of a film, these are done to try and get
the viewer hooked into the film.

conventions include:
    -company logos
-an enigma to hook the viewer into the film
    -opening titles

These should:

    -introduce the key characters
-give a insight into the start of the plot
    -set the scene
-hook the viewer into the film

Wednesday 19 October 2011

~Brief~

To produce 'the titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of 2 minutes'.
